Canvas Assignments allow students to submit work (documents, images, text, links, files, etc.) for instructor or peer feedback. As an instructor, you can create an assignment directly in your Canvas course. Assignments can either be graded or ungraded.
To review the two-step process for adding an Assignment to your Canvas course, click the tabs below.
Step One: Create the Assignment
In this video, you will learn how to manage and create Assignments in your Canvas course. To view subtitles for this video, click CC on the video player.
Step Two: Add the Assignment to a Module
Students can access published Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions directly from the Canvas course menu, as well as through Modules.
If you create an Assignment from the Assignments page of your Canvas course, it is a best practice to always add the activity to a module. If you create an Assignment directly from a module, that activity is automatically added to the module and accessible to your students when published.
To add an Assignment to a Module:
- In the course navigation menu, click Modules.
- To add an Assignment to a specific Module, click Add Item (plus sign) to the right of the Module title.
-
The Add Item to Module window will appear. Click the Add drop-down menu and select Assignment.
- Select the Assignment from the list that you would like to add.
- Click Add Item. In this example, we select the "Written Exercise" Assignment.
To create a new Assignment directly from a Module, select [ Create Assignment ] from the list.
The Assignment has now been added to the Module.
