Due to Panopto's new pricing model, which no longer offers unlimited content storage, it is now necessary to archive inactive videos to stay within our new storage limits.
Effective Summer Quarter 2024, all inactive video and audio recordings created and uploaded into Panopto, including those in My Folder, course folders, and Zoom recordings uploaded into Panopto will be archived as follows:
- Zoom meeting recordings that have not been viewed in the past twelve months.
- All other videos and audio recordings that have not been viewed in the past twelve months.
When Will My Content Be Archived?
Content will be archived the week after the end of instruction each quarter. Refer to the UCLA Extension Calendar for more information.
How Do I Prepare Each Quarter?
As you review your course content before teaching, access all course areas with Panopto assets to ensure they are active and don't need to be restored from the archive. Note: Restoring archived videos can take up to 48 hours, so doing this before the course starts will prevent students from experiencing delays in accessing videos.
How Do I Identify and Restore Archived Panopto Videos?
- If your course includes archived embedded videos, you will see a message with a link to restore the videos. To start the restoration request, click "Restore from archive." If the video is no longer needed, you can remove it accordingly.
- Check your course Videos area for any archived videos. If present, you will see a new 1) "archived" icon and 2) a message indicating the folder contains archived videos.
- To access the archived video(s) page, click on the "archived" icon or "Show archived videos.". To reinstate the video to its original location, click on the 3) "Restore from Archive" icon. Note: it may take up to 48 hours to reinstate an archived video.
