This resource provides information on how to:
Check for New Zoom Features
The following summarizes the latest and upcoming Zoom features in each release. Please note that not all released features may be available in our UCLA instance of Zoom, as many features are locked by the admin (main campus). For example, AI Companion, Zoom Clips, and New meeting chat experience are disabled and will show as “Locked by admin” as of 02/21/2024.
- Windows
- MacOS
- Zoom Client (mobile app and browser)
- Linux
Check and Configure UCLA Zoom Settings
To access and modify your UCLA Zoom account settings, you’ll log into your Zoom web portal.
- Go to ucla.zoom.us.
- Click Login.
- Sign in with your UCLA Logon ID. (You will be prompted to “Check for a DUO push” to authenticate your sign-in.)
*If you need help setting up DUO, reference this article on how to Activate UCLA Logon MFA.
- Click Settings and then click each tab to see which features are available or “Locked by admin.”
- Toggle to enable or disable Zoom features.
Note: Features locked by admin cannot be enabled from your UCLA Zoom account.
Zoom Settings Sample
In the following image, you can see that the New meeting chat experience [1] and Meeting chat - Auto-save [3] are “Locked by admin” which means that we cannot enable these features unless the UCLA admin unlocks this feature.
You can also see two features in this image that we can toggle (enable or disable), which are Meeting chat - Direct messages [2] which is enabled, and Sound notification when someone joins or leaves [4] which is disabled.
Enable the Q&A Feature from Your Zoom Web Portal
To use the Q&A feature, you must first enable it in your UCLA Zoom Account Settings (i.e. your Zoom web portal). Once you’ve logged into your settings, follow the instructions from Zoom for Enabling Q&A for Meetings.
- Once the Q&A feature is enabled in your UCLA Settings, all subsequent meetings you create from Zoom will have this feature enabled.
- However, as of 02/21/2024, if you create a Zoom meeting from Canvas LMS, your meeting will not automatically inherit the settings that you enabled.
- If you want to export Q&A questions, you can generate a report from your Zoom web portal.
- *Please note that Q&A reports cannot be found in Canvas; you must generate them from your Zoom web portal.
- If you want to use the Q&A feature, we highly recommend you create meetings from your Zoom web portal (ucla.zoom.us) after you have enabled it.
Create Polls, Quizzes, and Surveys from the Zoom Web Portal
We recommend creating Zoom polls, quizzes, and surveys from your Zoom web portal. While there is a feature in Canvas LMS to upload a CSV as a Zoom poll; this integrated feature is very limited and does not provide you with all the options possible that creating polls, quizzes, and surveys from the Zoom web portal does.
