Canvas rubrics are a great way to communicate expectations of quality to your students. They ensure transparent and consistent grading for all students and provide a guide that students can use while completing course activities.
Rubrics can be added to assignments, quizzes, and graded discussions. They appear in tables and are comprised of:
- Rows that define the various criteria being used to assess an assignment.
- Columns that define performance ratings for each criterion (with points or point ranges defined for each rating).
Tip: Rubric Capabilities
- Once you create a rubric, the rubric is saved in your course for future use.
- Rubrics cannot be edited once they have been added to more than one assignment.
- When you delete a rubric, Canvas will remove the rubric from all associated assignments in the course and remove any existing scores and assessments given using the rubric.
- Rubrics can also be set up as non-scoring, meaning they provide students with criteria for activities and allow for outcome-based feedback without including actual points values.
