The Files area of your Canvas course is a content storage area. You can upload your course content to it, including documents, photos, PDFs, media files, and more.
Once files are uploaded to a course, they can be placed in Announcements, Modules, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes within your Canvas course.
File Storage Details
Here are some important points to keep in mind when it comes to file storage in your Canvas course:
- There is a 1 gigabyte (GB) limit on individual files uploaded to Canvas.
- Your file storage quota consists of all files uploaded into the Files area of your course and all assignment submissions.
- Each Canvas course has a file storage capacity of 1000 megabytes (MB) or 1 gigabyte (GB).
- The Files area of your Canvas course can only be seen by you. Students can only see files if you upload them in content items such as Announcements, Modules, Pages, and Assignments.
- Students have their own personal Files area where they can upload their own content and assignment submissions. Their account size defaults to 50 megabytes (MB).
If you require more space due to the size of media files, please contact atli@uclaextension.edu to request an increase in your course storage size.
