Once you have finished building your course, you'll want to make sure that students can see its content. In Canvas, you must actively publish both your modules and content items within your modules (e.g., pages, assignments, text headers, etc.) to make them visible to students.
- If a module and/or item is unpublished, this will be indicated by a gray No Symbol icon
- If a module or item is published, this will be indicated by a green Checkmark icon
Publish a Module
To publish a module:
- In the course navigation menu, click Modules.
- Locate the module you want to publish, then click the gray No Symbol icon to the right of its title. The icon will turn into a green Checkmark icon to indicate a published state.
When you publish a module, all items within it will automatically be published. If you need an individual item within the module to remain hidden from students, click the green Checkmark icon to the right of its title so that it changes to the No Symbol icon, indicating that the item is unpublished.
If you need to unpublish a module, click the green Checkmark icon to the right of the module title. The icon will change to the No Symbol icon to indicate that the module is unpublished.
Publish Items within a Module
To publish items within a module:
- Click the gray No Symbol icon to the right of an item. The icon will turn into a green Checkmark icon to indicate a published state.
- To unpublish an item, click the green Checkmark icon to the right of its title.
