Add a Biography and Picture to Canvas Profile

Your Canvas profile allows you to display your biography and add a photo of yourself. Your Canvas profile is visible to students across all your courses.

Add a Biography

Adding a biography to your Canvas profile gives students the opportunity to learn more about you. When crafting your biography, consider including the following:

  • Your relevant expertise
  • Your academic history
  • Your approach to teaching or brief “teaching philosophy”

TIP: Ensure Your Profile is Reusable

Since your Canvas Profile is visible to students across all courses you may teach, avoid including course-specific information in your biography (e.g., your goals for a specific course).  

To add your biography to your Canvas Profile: 
  1. In the global navigation menu, click Account. A pop-out menu will open.
  2. Select Profile. Your Canvas user profile page will open.

  1. Click the three-dot icon at the top-right side of the page to open a dropdown menu.
  2. Click Edit Profile.

  1. Type or paste the text of your biography in the Biography field.
  2. Click Save Profile.
