Canvas allows you to forward Inbox messages (called "Conversations") and course activity notifications to your personal email account.
By default, Canvas sends these notifications to the email address you use to log into Canvas (your UCLA email address), but if you would like to forward conversations and notifications to a different email address, you can add it within your Canvas account settings.

Step One: Add an Additional Email Address to Canvas
To add an additional email address to your Canvas account:
- In the global navigation menu, click Account.
- Click Settings.
- Click + Email Address in the Ways to Contact section. The Register Communication window will open.
- Type the email address you want to add to your Canvas account in the Email Address field.
- Click Register Email.
A confirmation message will be sent to the email address that you just registered. In the confirmation email, click Click here to confirm this registration.
Once its registration has been confirmed, the new email address will appear in the Ways to Contact section of your Canvas account settings.
Please note that your UCLA email address must be set as your preferred email, which is indicated by a star icon (★) on its right side.
Step Two: Customize Your Notification Settings
To customize your notification settings so that messages are forwarded to your newly added email address:
- In the global navigation menu, click Account.
- Click Notifications.
- Set the notification preferences for your newly registered email address by clicking the Notification Preference icons for each option.
- To ensure that messages from the Canvas Inbox are forwarded to your email account, select the Notify Immediately preference for the Conversations category.
Tip: Send Attachments from the Canvas Inbox
You can now reply directly to Canvas email notifications from your newly registered email account; however, please be aware that attachments added as part of the reply in your email account will not be included in the message visible to students in Canvas. All attachments must be sent directly from the Canvas Inbox.
