Canvas Overview
Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) that supports online and web-enhanced learning at UCLA Extension. It provides a virtual place for instructors to organize their course materials for their students to access and for instructors to post assignments for their students to complete and submit.
With Canvas, your course can be designed to run with live meetings (on campus or via Zoom), without live meetings (fully online), or a blend of these modalities.
Watch the Video Demonstration
In this video, you will take a guided tour of Canvas to learn more about the Canvas Dashboard, sidebar, global navigation menu, and course interface. To enable subtitles for this video, click Settings (gear icon) on the video player.
Your Role in Canvas
Canvas displays different menu options in the Course Navigation menu for instructors and students in a course. Instructors see all of the menu options available, while students see limited menu options.
IMPORTANT: The Visibility icon indicates menu options hidden from students. (Note: the Visibility icon appears at the right of Announcements and Modules when no content is published in those course areas.)
